What is "Dual Diagnosis"? Dual Diagnosis is the presence of both an addiction to a substance like opiates, meth, alcohol or any other addictive substance and a psychiatric diagnosis like bipolar, PTSD, anxiety disorders or any other psychiatric or emotional disorder.
The phrase "Dual Diagnosis" is often used interchangeably with the terms co-morbidity, co-occurring illnesses, concurrent disorders, comorbid disorders, co-occurring disorder, dual disorder, and, double trouble. Other institutions define "dual diagnosis" as meaning that an individual has two separate but related diagnoses. The term "dual diagnosis" can have different connotations and definitions depending upon who is using it.
There can be some confusion when using the term because there is no single type of dual diagnosis. The reason is, that there are multiple types of psychiatric illnesses, also many forms of drug abuse. Because of this, a wide range of dual or multiple disorders exist.

Dual-Diagnosis-Drug-Rehab was started in late 2007 by a team of volunteers to assist families in locating the best care for their loved ones.
The team is a private organization with board members and volunteers dedicated to enhancing the treatment of persons with chemical dependency and emotional or mental disorders. The board members have gathered information from thousands of mental health facilities across the United States to provide up to date information about mental health facilities and substance abuse treatment services specializing in dual diagnosis treatment and addicts.
